ABOUT THE DATABASE
|
|---|
The Colonial Tasmanian Family Links database is designed to provide an initial
online genealogical research resource. It links individuals with other members of their families living in Tasmania in the 19th Century. The information about individuals is based primarily on records of births, deaths, and marriages and similar events, held in the Archives Office and the linkages have been developed by family historians associated with the former National Heritage Foundation in the late 1990s. The database contains approximately five hundred thousand entries.

Records are not available from the links within this database. For copies of birth, death and marriage registrations clients are requested to check the 'Tasmanian Pioneers Index' to obtain a full record reference. The 'Tasmanian Pioneers index' is available on cd-rom. This searchable index covers all birth, death and marriage registrations in Tasmania from the period of registration (1838) until 1899.
The Index is available at most State Libraries and at Genealogical Societies within Australia and New Zealand and microfilms of the actual registrations are available from these Institutions see brief guide #24. Once clients locate records in this index they can either copy their own record from a local collection of microfilmed registers or alternatively contact us for copies. To supply copies staff need the event (e.g. birth) registration place (e.g. Hobart), the registration number (e.g. 156/1867), and the register number (e.g. RGD33). We will do up to four scans at a time.
For more information on births, deaths and marriages in Tasmania visit Family History.

Except where indicated by '(AO)', the family links in the database have not been made by the Archives
Office and we are not therefore able to guarantee their accuracy. Links
made by the National Heritage Foundation have been built up from a
diverse range of sources which have not themselves been checked.

in assisting in this process, copies of documentation which would verify
any proposed additions (see Guidelines
